Course Overview:

This is a 4-week course occurring on Saturday mornings in June and July aimed at artists of all levels, and ages. Adrian will teach you how to measure by eye, to draw still life objects, outdoor in nature and scenery, and how to draw the human form with Life Drawing models.
Each session will be broken up into a introduction and recap, a warm up period, short drawings, then we will have a 10-15 minute break, continuing with a 1 hour session. On days that we are doing Life Drawing (#3 & #4), classes will be an extra 30 minutes long to allow for more time with the models and to develop your drawings.

#1 – Introduction to Drawing – 13th June – 11am

Our first class will bring us through the drawing process, knowing your tools, and how to use them. Next, students will learn the comparative measuring technique, gesturing, blocking in basic shapes for composition, and the relationship of light and shadow. We will then explore creating simple forms by observing a collection of man-made and natural objects in a Still Life drawing session.

#2 – Landscapes & Urban Sketching – 20th June – 11am

In this second class, we will recap last week’s lesson, then move on to depicting scenery: both from nature and in the urban setting. Composition will be emphasised, as well as advanced measuring and perspective techniques (horizon line, vanishing points). This class we will also introduce Colour, and showing both the realistic palette and a more graphic imagined palette.

#3 – Life Drawing Session 1 of 2 – 27th June – 11am

This 2.5 hour class we will learn how to draw the human form, from life. We will start the class with a recap as normal, and then learn how to measure and plan the composition for drawing with good proportion. We will work on creating gestural drawings, which are loose and fast, before sitting for a little longer after the break with one or two poses for the remaining time.
We would ask for complete respect to our models throughout the session duration.

#4 – Life Drawing Session 2 of 2 – 4th July – 11am

Our second life drawing-based class (2.5 hours) will contain sitting poses, which will give students ample opportunity to render more detail, explore colour, and realise a complete finished drawing. Students will learn to define sketching edges, light, shadow, and finishing techniques.
We would ask for complete respect to our models throughout the session duration.
